What is HTMA
A window into what blood tests can't see
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a non-invasive test that uses a small sample of hair to reveal the mineral status inside your body's tissues. Not what's circulating in your blood on a single day, but what's actually been stored and used at the cellular level over the past 2 to 3 months.
It's one of the most comprehensive and underused tools in functional health. And it's especially powerful for athletes.
Why it matters
Minerals are the spark plugs of human physiology
They regulate energy production, muscle contraction, nerve signaling, bone density, hormone function, and recovery. Without the right minerals in the right ratios, none of those systems work the way they should, no matter how good your training is.
Most standard lab panels don't test for mineral status in any meaningful way. Serum magnesium, for example, only reflects what's in your blood, not your tissues, where 99% of the body's magnesium actually lives. You can test "normal" on paper and still be functionally depleted.
